According to Jessica Mayne, I am actually a boy. She felt my mourning of the Griz's loss in the Championship game was a bit too intense for a female. I will admit I felt pretty darn grouchy after the horrid coaching debacle that was the second half of the game. But luckily watching a little movie called Elf cheered me up. Plus, it is only eight and a half more months until football season!

SNOW!!!
Winter has hit Utah. I woke up this morning to four inches of beautiful snow. I must say I REALLY enjoy having a garage for my car. The day's main adventure was my drive to work. The plows either weren't out or didn't remember how to do their jobs since last year. My usual five minute drive became 35 minutes! Only one of the fourth grade teachers was a school when the bell rang. Oops! A couple of the teachers were on the road for more than an hour and a half. Not so fun. But it looked beautiful and the afternoon commute was great. I'm a little worried about tomorrow because it sounds like things melted and are now freezing up. Cross your fingers!
Oh, and we listened to Christmas music in class today.

What I do for eight hours a day...
My wonderful friend Tiffany wrote this and now I'm stealing it. I never said I taught copywrite laws. :)
I teach my kids how to multiply and divide. I teach them how to write and help them to read better. I teach them to how to love themselves more and be grateful for what they have. I help them use their imaginations and laugh at their mistakes. I help them to know that no matter what happens in life and the trials they have that they can survive because their fourth grade teacher did.
I teach them to be their very best selves and do it because of how they feel inside not because they are going to get a reward at the end of the day, they learn to make right choices because it's the right thing to do. I teach them to say, "Thank you," to their classmates and mean it. I teach them to say, "I love you," to their families and remind them to be glad they still have them to say that too.
I help them to realize that that can accomplish anything if they work hard at it. I teach them how to be safe around strangers. I teach them about good hygiene. I tell them that they don't have the right to hurt other people by the words they say. I help them to watch out for the good that other people do and to compliment them on that. I let them be kids and at the end of the day, the end of the week, the end of the year, they know that THEIR FOURTH GRADE TEACHER LOVED THEM! That is what I do, I truly make a difference, I touch the future!
Oh and I teach all the stuff that the government tells me I have to. You know like, how to add, subtract, multiply, divide, use a ruler, type 20 wpm, how to play the recorder, develop their art skills, social skills, write a complete sentence, use punctuation correctly, read with expression, how to tell the difference between sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, how to predict the weather, how to conserve water, how to tell the difference between exoskeletons and vertebrates, how to use the library, how to recognize spelling patterns, how to sing, how to dance, and even how to skip. If you would like further detail I am sure you can find the State Core Curriculum online somewhere.

Living Vacariously
Not only is my biological clock ticking loudly, but I've also realized my parents' clocks are too. I really want my babies to know their grandparents and have them around for a long time. I guess I better get my butt in gear. Cute, single NORMAl guys, where are you?
Some shoutouts to those I'm currently living vicariously through:
Heather: Thanks for letting me share your pregnancy. Jackson was the first baby I ever saw and held on Day 1. He is cute as can be. Thanks for putting up with me.
Marcy and Aaron: #23!!!! These two wonderful folks are adopting a baby from Ethiopia and just found out they are #23 on the waiting list. When they told everyone, they asked us to pray, not only for them, but also for the baby and its family because they would have to go through some bad stuff to make the baby an orphan. How deep is that? I never thought of it that way, but it tells you how amazign these two are.
Liz and James: My cousin is having a baby, oh, about, now! I promise to be a nice normal Aunt/Cousin to the little one!
Forest and Jenn: Married in June, bought a house this fall, and now preggo! Gives me faith that there's still time left for me. Not that you two are old, but some of us never thought Forest would procreate so....
Becky and Tony: Their little Amelia is causing them stress with a strange lump in her leg. I can't imagine the fear and pain in their hearts right now for their little girl. Please pray the doctors can figure out what's going on.
To everyone who has a little one: I know you already know this, but please hug and kiss and love your little one for me. I want one so badly these days and I'm really envious of what you have. Be sure to always appreciate our blessings!

Team Gale

Forget Edward or Jacob. I'm all for Team Gale. Of course, that says a lot about me. Don't go for the nice, sweet guy. I go for the one she's known forever. My cross to bare I suppose. Or, as I thought the famous Alanis song said, a cross-eyed bear.
Finished Catching Fire last night. I don't know how I'm going to make it until September 2010 for the finale. Oh, it is going to be good. Can't wait for the full out rebellion. Die, President Snow, die!

My Most Excellent FB Vacine Tirade
The H1N1 shot is just a variation of the normal flu shot. Every year they tweak the flu shot to match the strains going around. Unfortunately, the piggy version came too late to make the normal shot. It will probably be in next year's normal flu shot.
I'm all for parents' choice but I also think their information needs to be reliable like Ellie said. There is way too much misinformation and out and out lies on the Internet. In general, your chances of negative effects are much greater from the disease than from the vaccinations.
Okay, off my soap box now. Have a great day. :)

Parents' New Car
So let me preface this with the following statement, "Everyone is okay." On the 15th my parents were driving through Spokompton on their way to Missoula. Didn't quite make it. Dad was driving under a train trestle and didn't see the stop lights. At all. And it was red. He almost made it through the intersection but ended up clipping an El Camino. According to witnesses, the parents' jeep "flew through the air like a stunt car" and landed upside down.
Now remember! Everyone is okay! Dad was able to climb out but Mom was sort of stuck. Plus they had Grizzy and Krista's two dogs in the backseat. All the dogs came out okay except Ricki had a cut on his back. Always travel with your dogs in crates!
The firefighters had to get Mom out and so she automatically went on the backboard and had the neck collar on. Now Mom has issues with things under her chin. So the collar almost drove her batty. Anyway, Krista (who was in Spokane for work) showed up about then and gets the dogs while the ambulance takes Mom to the hospital and the cops take Dad to meet her.
Mom had some cuts on her arm and some glass in it too. A couple of days later she also realized she had something in her eye and had to get that taken care. Dad is fine but of course feels horribly guilty. The jeep is totalled but they spent the last week calling around and found a new one already.
So the moral of the story is go tell your parents you love them! I am so thankfully they came out of this so well. We never know what life is going to throw at us. Appreciate everyone in your life.

Costco
Funny Costco story
Mom and Dad were shopping the other day and the sample lady had those wonderful cream puffs so of course they sampled. The lady mentioned Costco was discontinuing the cream puffs! Oh, no! So of course, the parents took home a box. (we never get them because, well, we'd eat them all in one nights).
Flash forward to the next Costco trip. Turns out the cream puffs had only sort of been discontinued. They'd actually been repackaged! But that sample lady probably sold a ton with her little exaggeration.
Okay, I thought it was funny. Would have been funnier if the cream puffs were in my freezer.

Obama speech to schools
Well, it seems our country's president will be sending out an inspiring speech to our country's youth on Tuesday. Now the basic idea of the speech is to ask children to set goals for themselves and basically be good students. Great idea right?
But, alas, I don't know if I can trust this. Already the information and lesson plans on the government website are already being changed because of the many parents protesting. "How can I serve the president?" was one assignment question. Hmm, last I checked the president was supposed to be serving me. This may be nitpicking but his attitude towards the citizens in our country irritates me.
Now, yes, most of you already know I don't like the president, but I think the saddest part is I don't trust him. If he were just going to come on and say "work hard in school, have a great year" that would be great. But I don't trust that that is all he will say! Will it become a rah-rah for O's government plans? Just do what the government wants...
The funniest part for me is that a principal in UT just got in huge trouble for showing a video about service starring Obama and his liberal Hollywood buddies. She didn't preview it and REALLY regretted that choice as she saw it during the assembly. The parents in her community were NOT happy.
As a responsible teacher, I always preview things before showing my kids. Am I going to have the chance to preview Obama's speech? Am I going to be required to show it? (Oh, Jordan School District don't go there, I'm already ready to quit your horrid district!) We will see!
PS I just noticed spellcheck does not like Obama's name!

Utah Porn
It was 100 degrees in Utah today. Utah is a desert. But what do a large percentage of the population wear? Knee-length shorts and t-shirts. Not tanktops. Oh, no, that would be wrong. A lady might accidently cause a man to have impure thoughts if he were to glimpse her shoulder. But, alas, I am not of that large percentage. So guys enjoy my sexy shoulder (and a touch of collarbone to boot):

Dear Board Members
For those that don't know, the teachers and kids are getting screwed by our administration. If you would like to read a delightfully consise summary please see my friend Hayley's post at http://drpepperjones.blogspot.com/2009/08/suck-it-board.html
Here's the email I sent to the board tonight:
Dear Board Members,
I am writing you as a tax-payer and a teacher in the Jordan School District. As a citizen, I have no problem paying taxes to support public education even though I do not have children. But my taxes dollars are not going to support the education of children; they are going to pad the pockets of an incredibly large and overpaid collection of administrators. Our district was just split. Please take a look at the personnel cuts that were made. http://www.jordandistrict.org/departments/forms/Accounting/full_budget_0910.pdf
Go look at pages 124-125. A total of 2,820.46 jobs were eliminated throughout the district. Of those, 2,024.11 instructional positions were eliminated because of the split. Only 796 non-instructional positions (many of which were people who work directly with students in the schools) were removed despite the fact we have half the district to supervise!
Supervisors, directors, and consultants were hardly touched. The people who actually work in SCHOOLS were removed in a proportional amount but the administrators (many of whom make $100,000+) were not. Please remember who does the educating of students. It is not the administration. Please support your children and your teachers, the heart of your schools. Drastic cuts need to be made in the executive areas. A smaller tax increase and deep cuts to the administration are the best solution to our budget issues.

Harry Potter Movies
I have a love/hate relationship with Harry Potter movies. If they were just movies and not made from a book, I think I would love them. I think the kids are great (their acting has improved greatly), the adult actors are fabulous, and the special effects are excellent. But...
I love the books. I love the detail and the background and the nuances from the books. Because of the medium of movies, all of those things become lost. Obviously, things have to be cut but for me the movies just become a sersis of scenes glued together. Plus, what's up with adding major stuff that was never in the books?!?! Guess we won't be getting a wedding at the Whesley's in the next book. It also bugs me when major things get left out. Where was Dumbledore's funeral? Kind of major. The wand Harry picked up in his office? That's supposed to be in the tomb. Sort of a major point in the next book.
So I'm torn.

New kids
Monday starts my fourth year of teaching! I can't believe it has gone by so quickly! Guess I can't use the "I'm a new teacher" excuse anymore. :)
So of course, I've been having the regular back to school freak out dreams. For those of you who don't teach, thank your lucky stars. My mom says she still has the dreams even though she's retired. Basically, most teachers dream about their classes being out of control. I think it is the fear of the unknown. I often have the dream that the kiddies are literally climbing the walls, like little monkeys! Last night, I dreamed I showed up for the first day and my classroom had been given to another teacher. No one seemed to know where my new room was but I had 24 little ones coming any second. So much for relaxing before school starts!
For those of you who enjoy the occasional crazy student story, here's one to start the year. I've been informed that one of the boys I'm getting likes to masterbate in class. Yes, you read that correctly. But it gets better! In first grade he had and accident and crapped his pants. So he's in the bathroom and realizes this is going to be a problem. He procedes to return to class, with his pants around his ankles, and presses himself up against the glass door to get his teacher's help! Oh, what a picture! I'll let you know if I get any other gems this year.

One more day
Tomorrow is the last day of school and I don't want it to come. I have loved having this class. Every single kid has a nice personality. Even the slightly annoying ones are at least entertaining. I'm so amazed at how much they've grown up. The girls all started the year with super long, little girl hair and now they've all got cut little dos. Some of my boys are noticing girls! But there are so many amazing friendships between the boys and the girls. I'm definitely going to cry tomorrow!

Weekend Wedding In Washington
I spent the weekend celebrating the wedding of Forest and Jenny in Yakima, WA. I've know Forest since about birth and have recently decided that Jenny trumps him in the friend department if they ever break up. It was a great weekend and there would be more photos except my camera died.

I don't like June!
The suckiness of my life:
- My water heater started leaking this weekend.
- Sliced open my finger cutting a lemon for my beer. Bled like mad and then couldn't drink my beer for fear that my blood wouldn't clot.
- The engine light came on in my car this morning.
- I'm PMSy.
Yep, don't come near me!

School is just up in the air
Life in the Jordan School District is interesting at the moment. Not only is the state out of money but the stupid (nicest word I can think of) district split cost $33 million dollars! So jobs are disappearing left and right. I think my job is safe since I've been at the building for almost three years but everything is so up in the air. There are 100 people who took leave of absences this year and are guareenteed jobs for next year. A bunch of assistant principals are not getting to keep their jobs so they will be back in the classroom. Literacy people might not be keeping their jobs. But there are only 40 openings district-wide. So some people who are low on the totem pole will not be keeping their jobs.
We're probably losing most of our professional development days and probably some school days. It is getting a little scary to not know how much money I will be making next year. It will
be less than this year though.
We walked in to the office today to discover the computer based science tests we have been preparing our students for aren't going to happen. The state realized the computer systems would freeze up if everyone in the state tried to do this at once. Now A track was supposed to start today so this was not a lot of notice. Oh, but don't worry, the state is sending ONE set of booklets for each grade. So all my training with the kids on crossing out answers and highlighting important information...not applicable.
Good thing I like my kids. Even if they were trying to take naps this morning.

Ava's big accomplishment
Ava locked me out of the house! Yes, you read that correctly. I was enjoying a beautiful afternoon on my balcony. Ava was getting all hot and panting a lot so I made her go in the house. I closed the sliding door and kept reading. Ava was very excited to see me outside and was jumping around on her side of the door. Next, thing I know, clunk! She knocked the wooden stick into the track of the door! The door won't move! I don't have a phone with me!
After racking my brain and staring at the grinning dog on the other side of the door, I finally asked someone walking by to go get my friend/neighbor/fellow teacher Hailey Ward. At almost that exact moment, Hailey and her hubbie Garrett come strolling down the street. After some discussion, I gave Garrett permission to attempt to pick the lock and/or break the glass by my front door. (Remember, I'm still stuck on the patio.) Ava is going nuts because someone is trying to break in and I am just standing there.
Next thing I know, I hear my alarm announce, "Front door open!" Best words ever! Garrett had opened my door using his credit card! He then came upstairs and released me from my balcony prison.
Lessons learned: Don't make Ava mad. Keep the stick far away from the door. Bring a cell phone with me always! Give a duplicate key to the Wards. Dead blot my front door.
Thank you Hailey and Garrett!

I saw a bear, I saw a bear...
While driving East on 90th yesterday afternoon, I saw quite a sight. Driving in the westbound lane was a motorcycle. Being driven by a person in a full bear suit. Complete with head. Like a mascot. It was the funniest thing I have seen in quite a while. Although, I nearly drove off the road rubbernecking him. Sorry, no pictures.

Sunshine!
At long last, global warming has arrived in Utah! I can not believe it is April 20 and it is just now getting warm. I have been craving the sun. I almost gave in and went to the tanning salon the other day. Outside PE tomorrow!
Ava seems to be enjoying the sun as well. Too much if you ask me. She wouldn't get her little self out of the sun on Saturday. So of course she drank a ton of water. Too much. She then proceeded to throw up all over the carpet. I got to spend Sunday doing carpets. But I must say, they do look nice now!

My Birthday
So I'm now 30 and it sucks. I cried last night. Wish I could say I'm being as upbeat as Becky is but I'm not. Plus my class welcomed me with, "Happy Birthday, you're old." Thanks. Just what I needed. I almost cried. Thirty seems like such a barrier between youth and adulthood. I just don't see anyway I can justify calling myself a kid any more. And I'm not ready to be an adult yet. I thought I'd be married and maybe have kids by now and it sort of feels like I'm a failure because I'm not. Which I know sounds selfish because I've had so many other good things come my way. Ugh. Now I'm just rambling and whining. So Happy Birthday to me.

Yes, sir, re. All done. Now just seven and a half hours worth of conferences. Good thing I love those kiddies.

Locked Down!
Being the nice (and broke) person that I am, I went in to sub for 5th grade at my school today. I took the kids to the gym for PE and were just getting started when the intercom came on. Lock down!
Oh, crap, I've got 25 kids in a gym with doors that don't lock. So I stuck my head out the door and yelled to the office to see what I needed to do. They yelled back that I should get them to a classroom. So across the hallway we dash to the Kindergarten class. They welcomed us and we sat in the dark and read Dr. Seuss stories. (It is his birthday today.)
After about 30 minutes, the older kids started to realize this wasn't a drill. Thankfully, we had a bathroom (that was about 8 inches tall) in the Kindergarten area. One of my poor fellow teachers has a bladder infection and had to dare the hallways to make it to a bathroom. One of the other 5th grades had a boy pee in his water bottle. (it was thrown out.)
After about 90 minutes, we were finally released to go back to our portable. Turns out some guy was suicidal and wandering the neighborhood with a gun. He was eventually caught in a backyard about 4 blocks from school. He never actually came on campus but according to the various rumors he shot up the cafeteria, was wandering the halls, and who knows what else.
Add it to my list of reasons I love teaching. It is never dull!

Yum, yum!
Olive Garden started hiring February 18 so hopefully it will be opening before my birthday. Did you know I once drove three hours to Spokane (from Missoula), ate dinner and drove back all in one afternoon/evening? I think it was for my birthday. So I am very excited about an OG in my own time zone! (yeah, yeah, I know there are already some in UT but this one is on my side of the valley.)
Plus, In-and-Out Burger is coming to the valley! So much for the diet!

Google Map Fun
Google Map doesn't have my current house or the one I grew up in (guess I lived in the boonies) but here's the house from Missoula. Notice the super awesome storm clouds. I'm guessing it was late summer from the clouds and the dry patches in the lawn.

It is the economy stupid!
This won't be long because it makes me crazy to even think about it.
Why did we have to rush the "stimulus" bill if Obama wasn't going to sign it for four days?
Anyone notice that the Dow tanked by almost 250 points on the day Obama did sign it?
The government really has very little to do with the economy. They can affect how people feel about things (see the panicked investors) but they can't improve or destroy the economy. They just aren't that powerful. Clinton did not create a great economy; the tech folks did that. Bush did not destroy the economy; it was the result of a lot of bad business decisions (okay, the government had a little to do with some of that, but individuals have more responsibility) Obama will not magically fix the economy with this bill.
The economy is all about cycles!!!! It is natural. But please be responsible. It is not the governement's job to pay for your mortgage or your 14 children!
Grrr.

Something Sericous
I am posting this because I feel like it is something that people don't know about or talk about and I finally feel like I am in a good place to talk about things. Some of you may already know about this but I think it is something everyone can hear about and maybe not relate to, but I hope it brings some understanding. I'm not posting this for pity because I've worked through most of it and I am in a good place now. I'm posting it because I think it is important for all of us to think about.
When I went to college I had an amazing freshman year. I met great people and had a wonderful boyfriend. I love UM. Unfortunately, during the summer between freshmen and sophomore years something changed. For whatever reason I became incredibly depressed. I started withdrawing from all of my friends and my boyfriend. In fact, it got so bad that my boy decided that he didn't want to be with me because I just wasn't myself anymore. Over first semester things just became worse and worse until finally I spent most of my time by myself in my room, not coming out for meals or even class.
Heather and Eric were two of the few bright spots in my life. Both tried so very hard to be my friends during this tough time I love you both forever for this. During this period of my life, I wanted nothing more than to curl up in the cor nor of my room and cry. I spent many hours of my life either crying or sleeping. Sleeping way my relief from life.
Eventually, it was Christmas time. My parents were incredibly worried about me but I insisted on going back to school at UM. I love Montana and it has been so good for me. I had a few good things in my life. One of the few classes I went to on a regular basis way the Advocate class. I loved the feeling I got from this class.
I slipped further and further into depression. This was not the "Oh, I'm having a bad day" depression. This was the "I can never see an end to this, nothing is every going to get better depression." I hated myself and I could not see an end to the pain in my life. My Mom came out and spent a week with me in February in the dorms. I was seeing different psychologists at the time and trying different anti depressants trying to get better. I was seeing a doctor almost every day but it wasn't getting better. But I as still unable to get out of bed and attend class. I think the hardest part was that I was getting medical treatment but it wasn't helping.
My Mom went home, hoping and praying that I would be okay. I amazed that my parents did not rip me out of school at that point. I could not function. I was not going to class. I was not eating. I was barely leaving my dorm room.
On February 26, 1999, I swallowed bunch of aspirin followed by some vodka. I woke up very late on the 27. Nothing had changed. The horrible feelings had not gone away. All I wanted was for the horrible feelings of sorrow and dark, dark darkness to leave me. I spent hours and hours curled up in the corner of my room. I hurt internally and externally. I couldn't sleep and I couldn't stand to be awake. I just wanted everything to go away and to not hurt anymore. On the night of the 27th I took every pill I had left in my room and finished a fifth of vodka. I left a message on my outgoing answering machine for my parents.
The next day my parents called and receive my answering machine message. I picked up during the message and tried to pass off what they had heard. I broke my parents hearts at this point. They were in WA and were hearing that their daughter had given up on life. Thankfully, (although at the time I did not thing so), they got my RA on the phone and she came and forced me to open the door. My parents and RA contacted Health Services, which referred me to the local mental health authorities. The police came to get me and escorted me and my RA to the mental health hospital in town.
I was admitted "voluntarily." I'm still not sure how you can be admitted voluntarily when your blood acholhal level and drug levels were as high as mine were. Because I admitted myself "voluntarily," I was not able to check out until my doctor said I was stable. I spent about a week locked on the psych ward in Missoula.
The worst thing I have ever done in my life was what I did to my parents for that day. They had to leave their jobs in WA, thinking their child had wanted to kill herself, drive eight hours to MT and find their daughter in a psych ward. The worst moment in my life was walking down the hallway to meet my parents at the check in desk. I knew I had hurt them so badly, but I hurt so badly, internally and externally, that I couldn't help it.
Lucky for me I had a private room for most of the time. I had taken my contacts out so a lot of my visit seemed to be a blur and of course mentally I was not in a good place. I remember the student nurse from MSU was very nice and understanding. I bottomed out at 103 pounds. There is a picture of me at Advocate Retreat around this time and I am just skin and bones. I remember getting to order my choice of breakfast, lunch and dinner choices. Our "physical therapy" classes were like the "Sit and Be Fit" on PBS. Including paper plates. It was pathetic. For the first day or two, all I wanted to do was sleep.
There was one girl my age in there. She told my that I just needed to tell the doctors what they wanted to hear and I could get out of there. I did. All I wanted was to get out of there so that I could to the job right and be done with this hurt forever. Please don't think this was because of a boy. It wasn't. I was feeling bad way before the boy ever broke up with me. It was probably why he broke up with me. Not that that helped. It was an internal hurt. Nothing made things better.
The strange thing was while I was hurting so badly, I did have a Spring Break trip planned with Jenna. She even came to visit me in the hospital for a bit. I will love her forever for being able to do that. It was definitely not an easy thing to do or a very normal place to visit. I was able to convince my doctors that I wanted to go on this trip and that I didn't want to hurt myself again. After about a week, I was officially released. I still hurt so badly but I wanted out of this horrible environment.
Thankfully, the doctors had been tinkering with my meds and found something that worked better than before. I went on my Spring Break trip and eventually my Effexor antidepressant kicked in. I firmly believe my depression is a chemical problem. My brain was not working right. Once the meds kicked in, I became myself again. I know that meds aren't the solution to every problem, but for me it definitely was a chemical problem.
I am doing much better now. It has been over ten years since that time and the meds are definitly working. I am convinced that I have a chemical imbalance in my brain and that led to my problems. I am once again Suzanne. I am the person you all know and love. I am not the girl cowering in the corner of her dorm room, cringing from the internal and external pain in her life.
Depression is a physical problem. If you or a loved one are hurting, please know there is help. I didn't believe this. I thought I was trying to solve my problem. But the therepy and the first drugs didn't help. Please, please, please seek help and keep looking for help until you feel better. I've found over the years that this is something people don't talk about. But my problem is just as real as that of a diabetic. Both of us have unbalanced chemical levels in our body and both can destroy lives.
As much as I knew I had friends and family who loved me, it wasn't enough when my brain was telling me otherwise. Please remember, none of use have a complete idea of what is happending in others lives. We all have hurts that we may share or we may not. Love one another and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. I am myself again today because I was finally able to get help. I love you!

Day off?
So it is MLK day so no school. Being the responsible teacher that I am, I scheduled a dentist appointment today so I wouldn't miss school. It was at 8:30 AM. What was I thinking? According to the dentist, I was starting to have gum issues (since I dont' floss). So I had to go in for a scaling/planing. Yuck. Actually, it turned out my teeth weren't as bad as they thought so it only took 30 minutes (versus 60) and they only charged me for one quadrant. The numbing shots hurt like the dickens of course and then didn't wear off until after 2! And now my teeth are aching. Poor me.
So since I didn't feel like doing anything that involved getting dressed like a normal person, I decided to clean the house. The master bath toilet has had this scary looking black mold in the tank since I moved in. I finally got up my nerve (and some heavy duty gloves) to scrub it out. Half a bottle of bleach later, I think most of it is gone. Yuck.
My cleaning spree continued. I noticed the filter in the back of the dishwasher was icky. So I took it out. And then another one. And then a third. They were disgusting! Soft, sticky brown goo. White, crusty goo. Ugh, it was sick. So if I die tonight, you'll know it was from either dishwasher goo or toilet tank mold. But after lots of toothbrush action things are finally cleaned.
I also scrubbed the shower and vacuumed the whole place, including the stairs! I need to go back to school so I can stop working so hard! :)

Hello Lurkers!
Hello out there. You can look. I don't mind. Isn't that why we do these blogs? (That and its cheaper than therapy).

Name callers
My kids are calling one of my kids names. Nasty names. And it is the good kids who are the ring leaders. I didn't even know until "darling child" decided to tell this girl he was going to kill her and that he'd already put someone in the graveyard. Nice.
So I'm mad at that kid because good grief you just don't say stuff like that. But at least with him it is sort of to be expected. I know I'm not supposed to say stuff like that but this poor kid has had a hell of a life and it is kind of amazing he's not more messed up.
But my "good" kids! I want to scream. I almost did at them. They got to miss their whole PE while I chewed them out for not being good leaders and for making horrible decisions. The whole you can be a good leader or you can be a bully thing. And then I made them write about what they'd done, why, how it made them feel, why it was wrong, blah, blah, blah.
So at this point I finish PE with the rest of the kids and child X comes up to tell me child Y called child Z a whatever! Seriously, I'm going to scream. Oh, and the principal didn't suspend or white slip the kid who threatened to kill the other kid. Lovely. At least it is snowing.
