School is just up in the air

Life in the Jordan School District is interesting at the moment. Not only is the state out of money but the stupid (nicest word I can think of) district split cost $33 million dollars! So jobs are disappearing left and right. I think my job is safe since I've been at the building for almost three years but everything is so up in the air. There are 100 people who took leave of absences this year and are guareenteed jobs for next year. A bunch of assistant principals are not getting to keep their jobs so they will be back in the classroom. Literacy people might not be keeping their jobs. But there are only 40 openings district-wide. So some people who are low on the totem pole will not be keeping their jobs.

We're probably losing most of our professional development days and probably some school days. It is getting a little scary to not know how much money I will be making next year. It will
be less than this year though.

We walked in to the office today to discover the computer based science tests we have been preparing our students for aren't going to happen. The state realized the computer systems would freeze up if everyone in the state tried to do this at once. Now A track was supposed to start today so this was not a lot of notice. Oh, but don't worry, the state is sending ONE set of booklets for each grade. So all my training with the kids on crossing out answers and highlighting important information...not applicable.

Good thing I like my kids. Even if they were trying to take naps this morning.

Does this mean what I think it means? If you don't know what I mean, we need to chat. You know what I mean?

I'm a lean, green, meaning machine!

I blame the time of night (er, morning) for the craziness of this comment.
